Just an example

Just an Example explores the constructed nature of documentary photography and questions the perceived objectivity of photographic images. Presented as a series of GIF animations, the work revealed how subtle shifts in framing, viewpoint, timing, and photographic technique could fundamentally alter the meaning of an image. By juxtaposing multiple versions of the same scene or the same objects, the animations exposed the sequence of decisions through which photographs are produced, emphasizing the photographer's responsibility in shaping visual narratives.

The project examined how images operate beyond their documentary function, drawing attention to the ways visual choices influence interpretation and contribute to the formation of public perception. Rather than presenting photographs as neutral records, the work highlighted them as mediated constructions that carry ethical and political implications, particularly when addressing socially and historically sensitive subjects.

The photographs were produced in Hungary, Israel, Romania, and Crimea shortly before the peninsula's annexation by Russia. First exhibited at Godot Gallery in 2014, Just an Example invited viewers to reconsider the authority of documentary images and the often invisible mechanisms through which photographs produce meaning.
